By Alfred H. Burne
Publisher: Staples Press (1949) |
|
With access
to the Royal archives, reports and correspondence, Burne has written
a sympathetic account of the Life of York that goes some way to
contradicting the unjust aspersions of York's detractors. His mediocre
military performance in the field is more than balanced by his
achievements as the most competent Commander-in-Chief in the long
history of the British Army. His reforms, conducted without fanfare,
completely transformed the Army and provided Wellington with a
force fit to fight the wars with France (1793-1815). Specification: pp 350 in 6" x 8½" case
bound with dust cover and protective acetate clear wrap. The work
includes plates and maps of military actions the Low Countries.
