Many people look for information in researching their family trees. This section lists the records curently stored at the National Archives, Kew, West London. Children accepted by the Asylum were recorded in the admissions ledgers, one for girls, a separate one for the boys. When children left the institution, the ledgers were updated to record the date of their departure and details of the unit of those boys who enlisted for military service or destination of boys and girls indentured to learn trades or occupations.

• The Duke of York's Royal Military School was founded in 1801 and opened as "The Royal Military Asylum for Children of Soldiers of the Regular Army" in 1803. The official title was changed in 1892 to its present form.
• In 1924 the Royal Hibernian Military School was amalgamated with the DYRMS.
• Documents and registers relating to the Royal Hibernian Military School stored at Arnside Street, Walworth, were destroyed during the London Blitz in September 1940. The extant records have been transferred to the National Archives, Kew, and are included in this list.
